Quad biking
The children went quad biking this morning.
Number three is rubbing his hands together and thinking about the challenge ahead, steeling himself. He will be the slowest and will go off the track 8 times in the first 20 minutes, stalling the bike in the long grass and waiting for rescue, but will deal with the humiliation well.
Number one will go around at a sedate pace, wearing a brown velvet jacket, and will make quad biking look almost elegant. But later, she'll complain that her thumbs hurt, and that she has condensation in her helmet.
Number two, in the red, is revving her engine and preparing to win. The other two will be lapped twice. Our speed freak daughter - she also likes to gallop horses across stubble fields - is thinking of a career in rally driving. I told her, you can't be David Coulthard and also the next Keira Knightley. You never see KK in Grazia with oil under her fingernails. But she is undeterred.
