The Patient

It's a public holiday in South Africa today (Heritage Day), so we took the boys down to the sports grounds for a run this morning. Baloo was so overjoyed to see all the birdies that he managed to trip himself up at full speed, taking a bad tumble. He got up, but started limping almost immediately and was clearly in a lot of pain...

We took him to the vet, who sedated him, did a full physical examination, took some x-rays and told us that it seems to be an anterior cruciate ligament sprain to his left hind leg. That means no jumping, running or climbing stairs for at least the next week, then we'll take him back for another assessment.

He was very groggy from the anaesthetic and the Morphine and spent the rest of the day passed out on the patio outside. We gave him water with a syringe every hour, until he was awake enough to get around by himself. My folks came over for 'n braai this afternoon and we had a wonderful time... I'm truly blessed to have such a wonderful family!
