Faces I work with 4
Eric Liddell (Olympic runner, Scottish Rugby international, missionary, hero of the Chariots of Fire film which won four Oscars in 1981) was a well-known figure around my community. I know his niece well, and have often enjoyed meeting his daughters. The Centre which carries his name is an important provider of services - particularly for those suffering from dementia.
This is Professor Patricia Peattie who is Chair of the Centre (a post that I occupied some years ago.) She was a nurse who became an academic and in due course was Vice-Principal of Edinburgh Napier University. We have a number of common interests through the Centre and also the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
Like every charity, the Eric Liddell Centre has great plans for expansion and improvement - but lacks the finance to see them into place right now. So Patricia has a big task (which she is ably tackling) to commend the Centre to the community - in the hope that (even in troubled times) folk might put their hands a little more deeply into their pockets!
