Learning Thai

My dorm-mates have decided it's time for me to learn to read and write. I've been here over two months now and can fumble my way through a basic conversation...about time, right? Well, maybe not, but a friend says learning the sounds of the letters has helped him with pronunciation and speaking. Hopefully it will be a good complement to my formal speaking and listening classes.

A couple girls this past week have spent hours with me teaching me the sound of all 44 consonants and 24 vowels. They are so patient! You can see a few letters in my workbook. I have two workbooks; both look like they belong in a kindergarten classroom. That's okay with me though...I can use all the help I can get.
