JOGGING THE WALL

I thought I would slope into Lucca today and do some city street shots. It would be fairly empty, there would be lots of space in the parking areas. I was foiled again by another fair, this one bigger than the last. It filled the whole of Borgo Gianotti, a street about ten blocks long. The tented stalls filled what is normally a huge parking lot. It emerged again on yet another another wide street.

The attendance at these fairs is tremendous. I am told things are half price and that would certainly account for the miles of traffic coming into town. Luckily, we were early and only saw the traffic jam as we were leaving.

So then, I photographed one of the city gates, the old Roman gate, the canal, a woman filling water bottles at a fountain, dozens of pics, and figured there had to be a good shot in there somewhere. We stopped at a traffic light on the way out when I noticed that people were out on the top of the wall that rings the city. The city walls are fabulous, a perfect place to walk, bike or jog. It is interesting, I have to say, to walk the wall as evening falls. There are excellent views to be had -- inside houses and flats. Today, a man was being pulled along by his dog, I whipped off the lens cap but by the time I could get a shot, they were gone. People were pushing strollers, just walking and some were jogging. The light was against me but the traffic light stayed red so I shot some more. This is the last shot I took.
