A wee bit of this & that

Nearly there

A view from the bus that will soon be no more.

Hailed as a solution to Glasgow's slum housing in the 1960s these flats in the Gorbals provided families with larger homes and for most bedrooms, their own bathroom and hot water. Sadly with their flat roofs the design works better in warmer climates. Now riddled with damp. People who lived there felt trapped, no-one wanted to move into them and slowly their days were numbered.

This block is getting ready to be dynamited; the insides gutted and every 5th (?) floor prepared for the big bang.

If I'd been sitting on the other side of the bus I'd see the New Gorbals. Lower density tenemental style flats, more owner occupied flats and the Citizens Theatre.

One thing is for sure and that is Glasgow along with areas like the Gorbals will keep re-inventing themselves. Here's to the future.
