My German cousin Christine visited me recently and amazed me with her fluent English, which was so good as to allow her to understand a table full of slightly merry Ayrshire folk at my sister's wedding.

Her kind invitation to go over for next years Oktoberfest led me to once again attempt to learn another language. The fortuitous placement of my glass of laphroaig atop my notes of German grammar led to this meeting of cultures and this blip.
