Treasured Possessions - Sharon's Bowl
Another dull, damp, miserable day, so no outside blip opportunities - so I turned my attention to stuff I've accumulated over the years.
This is a bowl made by my husband's niece Sharon.
Sharon was born with Downs Syndrome and in her teens attended a day centre where she learnt pottery. Each piece she would bring home and it would take pride of place on the mantelpiece to be admired by all the family. Her mother would moan that they were dust collectors, but despite repeated requests from various members of the family, Sharon would not part with a single piece, stating that they were for her Mum. You can imagine my surprise when one day I jokingly asked if I could have this bowl and she replied that I could! and promptly placed it in my hand. Despite reminding her she'd made it for her Mum she insisted I kept it.
Due to her health problems Sharon was not expected to live much beyond her teens but I am happy to say she is now 36 and still going strong. She will probably outlive her elderly parents! and I shall always treasure 'Sharon's Bowl'
