Myers Barn
Saturday
Away camping for the weekend in Brown County State Park, Indiana. We drove over yesterday late afternoon/evening, unfortunately getting held up for a good 45 minutes in a traffic jam due to road works west of Columbus. Real smart - Brown County is just coming into its peak season, when it is inundated by tourists visiting for the Fall foliage, and they decide to do road works on the main road leading from the nearest interstate! So by the time we'd got the camper set up it was virtually dark, so I got no blip yesterday. Anyway this morning I wanted to check out Muscatatuck National Wildlife Refuge, which I had discovered while browsing the Web the other day. Unfortunately the most direct way would have involved the same roadworks, so we had to find an alternative route. We didn't see a great deal of wildlife today - the refuge will really come into its own in October and November with the Fall migration - but we did find an old cabin and this barn, which I've chosen for my blip today. Built around 1907, the Myers barn is built of poplar and held together with wooden pegs. The Louis Myers family used the barn to house livestock, feed and grain until the Refuge purchased the land in 1966. In the afternoon we headed back to the state park, and hiked a couple of the trails, then we cooked dinner, and had smores by the campfire.
