One legged, evil Oyster catcher?

Oyster catchers are one of my favourite birds, beautiful colouring, amazing ability to dig deep in the sand to drag their food to the surface, and the most incredible cry. They also stay in pairs and are a joy to watch protect their chicks in the Spring.
This one was down at the shore watching the waves crash and I snapped it, only to realise after that it had a very evil looking eye and ...one leg???
