Faces I work with 8 (and 9)

Oldhamstocks or Aldhamstocks ("old dwelling place") has a current population of about 50. It is in the east of East Lothian and overlooks the North Sea. Its parish church was consecrated in 1292.

In summer, there is a gala day which hosts all sorts of activities such as various sporting events and stalls to buy numerous items. There is also judging for vegetables, plants and artwork and at the end of the gala, there is an auction to buy items such as vegetables, baking items and various other items.

Etta was born and brought up in Oldhamstocks - she went on to be a mathematics teacher, the wife of a sea-going merchant seaman, and mother of two.

Etta has many gifts. One of them is her profound knowledge of folklore from her country area, and her ability to weave and retell the stories of old, and to descibe in detail country ways and habits.

She also has a quick sense of humour. When a young man said to her last week "Etta, you're looking vibrant" she replied, "that's because I'm shaking all over".

And this is Jasper! Jasper was a successful business man in egg production. But his main claim to a place in my affections is that he is the most thorough gentleman I have ever met.
