Saki and Metropolis
Fred, Si and I had a great night out - Metropolis at the National Film Theatre and dinner and saki at Wagamamas. Metropolis was an all-new version that included film found in a basement in a museum that took years to restore. The person responsible for storing it knew that it must be somewhere in the museum, but he was never given access to search for it. However, his wife became director of the museum (which was in Argentina) and lo and behold the film cannisters containing the original, unedited Metropolis were found.
The film was fascinating for its vision of the future. Its endless streets of moving traffic and trains among the skyscrapers must have been quite a vision then, but it's our reality now, except the traffic (and sometimes the trains) don't move much at rush hour.
