Abstract Eyes

Never Too Old

A man is never too old for a hug........from his Mom.

This hug was a special moment. The way her eyes lit up as he hugged her tight. The image of my husband hugging his Mommy as a young boy popped into my head. Mom's always know the right things to say. They know how to help. They know how to make it all better.

This hug came just minutes after deciding that our small little kitchen remodel of painted white cabinets.........would get much, muCH, mUCH, MUCH BIGGER. Time for the ceiling to come down. Time for the countertops to be torn off. Time to install canned lighting. Time to repaint the walls. Time for a new tile backsplash.

You see, my husband is a perfectionist. I came home from preschool today with our son and after hearing all about his 1st day, my husband turned to me and said:

I need to talk to you about something.

Ooooooh greeeeaaaaaat, what did I do?!!

No, no, it's the kitchen. I am stressed out about the kitchen.

Because I started this whole 'paint the cabinets white' project?

No, no. That needed to be done. I am stressed because the we are doing all this work to update our cabinets, but our low hanging ceiling is terrible.

No, it's actually awful. Let's tear it down!!!

I don't think we can and it just really bothers me that our kitchen will still look dated after all of this.......wait, hold on, let me think about this.

About tearing the ceiling down????

Maybe.....it might not be such a huge deal.....

Let's do it!!!!

Well........hmmm.....LET'S DO IT!

YAY!!!!!

--------------

It is now 10:07pm and after tearing out half of the backsplash and cracking the end of my pointer finger I announced, "I'm taking a break". If I thought that our kitchen was bare and in disarray before.......I had no idea how it would look today. It is completely torn apart. The fridge is in our dining room. The floors are papered. And we have a 6X6 hole in our ceiling. But the best part is, we aren't stressed out about it because the low ceiling has been so annoying for so many years and now it is gone. And now, when the cabinets get their bright white paint, the old vintage florescent light ceiling will be long gone. I love how well my husband and I do when we remodel together. It's something that we both just love!

10:12pm and I hope we are calling it a night. I've got a brand new baby to meet first thing in the morning!
