here's to the good things in the world

I was lucky enough to spend some time on the small island of Mainau today. I was there for the EuroNatur Environmental prize-giving, which was awarded this year to a man called Ernst Paul Dörfler - an inspiring environmental campaigner who risked his own freedom in the German Democratic Republic (East Germany) to fight against pollution and environmental destruction. He's still fighting now, to keep the beautiful river, the Elbe, in its wild and natural state and not be hemmed into a shipping canal that is, really, not needed.
The conviction that he spoke with and all the joy of life that exudes from him was really refreshing and has helped me find my campaigning mojo again.
