here's an example

of something lost.

Someone who once cared for me- who listened to Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah while lying flat on the carpet in the dark. Someone who dismissed me for, what seemed like, no reason. No further contact has been initiated- just the ridiculously inconvenient show listings and tours.

Being able to electronically check in on people no longer in your life is the equivalent of any other generation's nightmare run-in with the ex. It's a silly way of finding out what you want to know and especially what you don't want to know. Going alone to a concert whose lead singer once made you breakfast at 3 in the morning is beyond silly.

I believe these illusions will disappear at some point. When the kisses of strangers begin to fade out the memory. When you're too busy to 'electronically check in' even though mentally you're checking in, regardless. There's the hope you'll feel the same way again. That someone new will feel the same way.

It's all about doing it over again. Or wanting to. And now, knowing what needs to be changed.
