Lifeboats
There was always going to be a lifeboat blip and it was to be kept in reserve for a dark dreary winters day. However this morning there were two lifeboats in the small boat harbour so couldn't resist the shot. Just as well I didn't wait until lunch time as the one of the right had gone.
Needless to say the lifeboat is an important part of Shetland life and there are two stations in the isles one here in Lerwick and the other at Aith covering the west coast. There have been many heroic rescues in my time here. What I do miss are the "maroons" being set off to alert the crews that they are needed - technology with pagers and the like have seen to that.
This view is less than a minute from the front door of the office.
