HMS Belfast
Well, the sleepover I've been planning for months finally happened! I managed not to lose anyone!
I met the Guides and other leaders at Waterloo where we had a MacDonalds and then travelled to London Bridge on the Thames Clipper. (I convinced the Guides they were cycling in the rain on "Boris Bikes"!)
HMS Belfast was really quite impressive and our concierge Sarah was lovely. We slept in bunks on the mess deck. I thought it would be quite enclosed and claustophobic but it was quite light and airy. The Guides settled down well and I actually got some sleep!
Saturday morning after breakfast we had a look round the ship and then off to the Museum of London Docklands. There was an interactive exhibition celebrating our Guiding Centenary. The museum is housed in an old warehouse which has been restored in the middle of Docklands, by Canary Wharf. I would love to take my Dad there one day.
We then travelled by DLR and tube to Victoria to our Headquarters in Buckingham Palace Road. By now we were exhausted so we flaked out in the members' area and did visited the shop.
Home by 5pm and then straight off to a Golden Wedding Anniversary party! It was a lovely evening: Pam and John whose anniversary it was are a unique couple who are so very special. They've been involved with our church youth club since I was a "youth". They've touched so many people's lives.
Busy old weekend but lovely.
