11th November

On 11th November 1919, the Latvian Army won a decisive breakthrough in the fighting against the Russian and German forces led by Pavel Bermont-Avalov, which had taken up arms against the Republic of Latvia. The victory over the forces of Bermont-Avalov marked the conclusion of the Latvian War of Liberation (1918-1920) and allowed the work of creating the new state to begin.

Every 11th November evening since early nineties now people are coming to put little lights on this wall to remember this freedom war and to teach their children to appreciate the freedom of our country.
