Looking in
This morning everybody involved in the overhaul of the gasturbine of unit EC 4 had a day off I guess...
So I had the opportunity to remove a (temporary wooden) cover and take a picture of the so-called "transition piece" which connects the burner with the first stage nozzle ring.
That "ring" is a set of stationary blades which direct the hot gasses coming from the burner(s) to the first row of rotating blades of the power turbine (that is the part of the gasturbine that generates the power. The other part provides the power turbine with compressed air and is called the compressor).
This is a look upstream; Here you can see the burners from the other side. In that Blip entry is also a link that shows how the combustion system works.
At the roof: a look at the RWE site.. The blur is coming from the exhaust gasses generated by our two auxiliary boilers.
They have to be in service because at the moment only one unit (EC6) is running.
Tonight the nightshift has a lot of work because they have to start-up four units... (including the old lady EC 20).
