End of the line
We had a quick look at Hadrian's Wall this morning before driving back to London. It runs for about 80 miles coast to coast and is nearly 2000 years old. It has the remains of turrets every mile and ditches either side. A little way on from here we saw the remains of a large Roman bridge over the river. I found it particularly interesting having recently visited Hadrian's Tomb in Rome, and walked the spiral tunnel to the central chamber where his ashes were kept. Rome is roughly 1300 miles from here and it's amazing to think that Hadrian himself visited this outpost of empire.
