Me and Max

Love Knows No Borders

When I was young, I crossed a border (an ocean actually!) to find the ONE. I knew I needed to spread my wings, to fly high, to feel the air against my cheeks before I could settle down.

Now that I have children in that falling-in-love age, I am tempted to close that border. The thought of having them move outside a 10 mile radius is somehow unbearable (okay, 20 miles then!). And with a grandchild of my own, it gradually dawns on me what my English parents-in-law must have endured. All that sea between us.

But what do you do when this all-too charming Italian lady passes the threshold of your house and greets you with her most gracious, gorgeous smile? When you see your son all bright eyed and good mooded? What do you say when her knowledge about the world is broad and wide and deep and the conversation flows like you have known her for years? When she enjoys walking and says yes to climb a mountain with her boyfriend´s mother (with a camera!) for company?

You just smile, of course, forget about borders and silently whisper something like long live love...... :-)
