The Brooklyn Bridge

We visited our niece Laura in lower Manhattan today, who lives very close to the end of the Brooklyn Bridge, and for lunch we walked across the bridge to an excellent Turkish restaurant. The day was superb; we ate outside in the restaurant's garden in light jackets.

It was the first time either Marylee or I had walked across the bridge, and it was a wonderful experience. We passed many hundreds of pedestrians and numerous cyclists; the entire walk took about an hour (half of that on the bridge itself), and I must confess we took the subway back to Manhattan. This view is looking back toward Manhattan, and I chose it partly because it shows a new skyscraper designed by Frank Gehry (the slim silver tower just to the left of the main support). With the weather and all our peregrinations today I had a large surplus of blip candidates--but there was no contest with the bridge. Our first stop in the morning was the International Center of Photography --a museum which no photographer visiting NYC should miss. The ICP's current exhibitions include "The Mexican Suitcase" (showing prints from long-lost negatives of the Spanish Civil War by Robert Capa, Gerda Taro, and Chim [David Seymour]), and vivid images of the Cuban Revolution.
