Thistle Down

By Ethel

Abraham Lincoln

Although I never knew him,
He was not out for show.
Born humbly in a cabin,
Our history...tells us so.

His chin was squared and shapely,
And closely cropped there-in.
With eyes of understanding,
That set him out to win.

He walked along with wisdom,
A strong supporting rod.
And in despairing moments,
His faith increased in God.

He loved all men as brothers,
In this land of liberty.
From the bitterness of bondage,
He sought to make them free.

The world will not forget him,
Let say...what ere they can.
In him...were all the portions,
To the greatness of a man.
