Snow Glow
Please indulge me in another night light and snow experiment.
A few asked how yesterday's shot was done, so I will comply.
In Anchorage there is often low or overcast clouds. When there is snow on the ground the city lights reflect from the snow into the clouds and back. This creates somewhat of a glow, a snow glow, a golden color due to the incandescent lights.
Because of this, it doesn't get real dark at night. You could easily drive without your headlights. So, that plus the timed exposure is what creates the weird sky.
This shot was taken with a wide angle lens, 17mm, f/11, 90 secs on Bulb. Tonight I put the white balance to Auto. The image still had a golden tone, so I adjusted it in PS to more simulate whiter snow.
Oh, I almost forgot. People light up their trees like this for the long dark winters.
That's it, experiment No. 2. Thanks for all of you kind comments yesterday!
