Bright Eyes

We had 2 yards of topsoil delivered to our house in Wisconsin this morning (in case it's not obvious, that means cubic yards). As we were digging through it, this little guy hopped clear of the shovel just in time. He was no more than 2 inches long and exactly the same colour as the earth, but his eyes stood out, clear and bright.

He's the second toad that we've found so far - there was a little yellow one hiding under an ashtray on the balcony. He must have been a good climber. It's good to see these amphibians alive and kicking - it's a sign of a healthy environment.
