Bloke on a High Horse
This is Durham's famous and contoversial Bloke on a Horse statue.
The recent controversy concerns the council's decision to "Consult the Public" about whether we would like our Bloke to be moved from the middle of the market place to the edge. The public said "No, leave him where he is". Which was apparently the wrong answer, so he has been turned round and moved along anyway.
The older contoversy apparently goes a bit like this...
When our Bloke on a Horse statue was new, the Bloke who made it was very proud of his achievement, commemorating the esteemed Bloke.
But then, so the legend goes, a Blind Bloke examined the statue and discovered with his seeing hands, that the open-mouthed horse had got no tongue.
Shock, horror, despair. The Bloke who made the statue was so upset by this that he killed himself.
I have not bothered to seek Wikification. I like the story as it is.
Enjoy your Wednesday, and keep things in proportion!
