Gateway to a new life

Been to Tilbury Cruise Terminal today on a school science day.

This doorway leads onto the gangway that passengers use to reach the ships.
It was through this doorway that thousands of people passed on their way to Canada in the 30's and Australia in the 50's and 60's.
London's kids were evacuated to US and Canada through here too.

Now just used once every ten days or so when a cruise liner docks.
