The Wicker Man

Here I am in Kirkcudbright shire ? the most pleasant of areas ? and chosen to be the major location for the filming of the 1973 horror film The Wickerman.

Julius Caesar in De Bello Gallico was the first to mention the pagan, druidical practice of building a huge wicker figure and then burning it as a human sacrifice in effigy.

There is a huge Wickerman Festival of music and arts in this area each year, culminating, of course, with the burning of the Wicker Man. Here he is under construction for the 2011 event!
