Hunterarian specimens

This evening I was invited to a reception at the Hunterarian Museum in the Royal College of Surgeons. John Hunter was an 18th c anatomist and later army surgeon, he amassed a huge collection of specimens of human and animal tissue and bones. His collection includes examples of diseased organs and congenital deformities. The collection was bought by the government in 1799 and later given to the Royal college.

The reception was to celebrate the publication of a book written by some barristers I know. What with the champagne, the chat and the canapes I did not have a lot of time to look at the exhibits so I will go back one day when the museum is open to the public.

It's free .
