Counting Lesson

Bicycle Advocates and Volunteers are learning the details of the Annual Tucson Bicycle Count. They already knew how to count but this lesson was to understand how to fill out the form. Counts are to be done at 15 minute intervals over a two or three hour shift.

The University of Arizona will get special attention. You can only imagine the traffic mess between classes when 40,000 students walk and bike to their next destination and everyone is in a big hurry. They will also count UA over the lunch hour. That will be a job!

Last year there was a bike and pedestrian collision that resulted in a fatality at the UA. The bike count data will help to plan better traffic patterns.

Our bike club will count way up north of Tucson where the road will be widened to six lanes with 5 foot shoulders for bikes. We want to emphasize the need for those shoulders.
