Ulsan Lookout Point

First full day in Ulsan today, and we didn't stray very far. Our friends Jill and Keith are working at one of the massive ship-building yards (for the client) on a massive new Drill-ship. I have to admit that this is one of the things I have been looking forward to most out of my trip to Korea! I should apologise to J + K for dragging them back to work and talking shop with them on a Saturday, but it was so cool to be in there.

I will check whether I can upload some of my shots from there, and then I'll upload them to flickr...it was an experience!

After that, we drove out to an old lighthouse (didn't do much reading up on the significance of it, since it was getting dark!) and then out to a point. We were able to look back on the Hyundai yard, and I was able to get a flat surface to produce a long-exposure shot I was happy with.

Interestingly, this yard is one of the biggest (if not THE biggest) in the world. It is quite spectacular. They had 100 naming ceremonies last year - that is two boats PER WEEK...and if you see the size of the ones within my eyeline, you'd understand that is quite a feat (today, I could see 3 super tankers and two enormous container ships completed, plus another 2 container ships floating being worked on, and lots of bits of boats - dwarfed by comparison, but still too big to get into Aberdeen!).

Fantastic day, and had a good laugh with J + K...sweet :)

Oh, and please (if you've read this far) check out my backblips from the last 4 days :)
