River Otters
These girls are members of the River Otters, one of the groups in the Explorers' Club For Girls in Bellingham. They were some of the volunteers at a Nooksack Salmon Enhancement Association work party, weeding and mulching along Whatcom Creek this morning. They'd just succeeded in digging out some very tenacious blackberry roots, and paused for a photo before taking a well-deserved snack break. I've photographed them at other work parties, working in mud and in the rain. Nothing dampens their enthusiasm -- and it's infectious.

P.S. The dog's name is Scruffy.
