Tastes nice...
...but it falls apart. So a tasty, messy treat by Mrs Reidar.
Peter Davison was Doctor Who tonight :) I have very fond memories of his era of Who. I was eight when Tom Baker left the programme and the Doctor changed into 'that one off All Creatures Great and Small'. What an amazingly brave thing to do as an actor, following on from Tom Baker, I mean he is Doctor Who!
I was easily caught up watching the series then and it was easy to do because it was on twice a week. This was before soap operas like Corrie and Eastenders where on everyday. Twice a week was something else and the BBC really used it as 'sounding out' to see if the public would tune in for every episode. To try it out on a science fiction children's show shown at prime time was a risk that eventually doomed the show, although it did last for a long time after the Davison era.
I have memories of sitting in the back room of my grand fathers house which we moved into after his death. We didn't use the main living room apart from during the summer as it was difficult to heat. The TV was on a long chest of drawers/cabinet and the seat I was on had its back to it so I was turned around kneeling and hugging the back of the seat. The TV was black and white. My Mum was in hospital in Edinburgh and my Dad was late home, rushing to make us something to eat before we jumped in the car and dashed over for visiting hours. I have a memory of my Dad always making Findus Crispy Pancakes and burnt chips. I'll need to check which episode of Doctor Who this is but it did feature the Master and he was trying once again to force the robot Kamelion to do his bidding. I did like the character Kamelion when I was little, most slagged him off as being useless (including the BBC effects department) but although he didn't move much I found him a strange tortured being. The Doctor had about four other companions then so this added metal man was a brilliant treat. Anyway, I can remember my Dad getting cross with me because I wanted to see the cliff-hanger at the end but we had to leave as soon as we could to drive for thirty minutes to get to the hospital. I have no real reason for knowing why I feel this but remembering that time just brings back some sad feelings.
Still I loved Doctor Who then and I do still now. Reidar Jnr recognises Doctor Who stuff in the shops. We where in WHSmiths and he picked up a "Doctor Too" magazine to look at :) And he stops entranced when the music starts up for a new episode. Like it or not there is a good chance my boys will see every episode and wear Cyberman pyjamas :)
Memory lane is closing now...
