San Diego River
This photo was taken on a rainy [drizzle] day in San DIEGO. This river most people do not see. It has a history of flooding from one side of the valley to the other about every 100 years and small floods every 15-30 years. The last sm. flood I remember was in the 80's.
Every time it floods people get hurt or die because they think they can cross it and every time it floods the city makes improvements that are suppose to prevent the damage from the flood. The current improvements have not been tested. I knew a man born around 1900 who used to walk here from OLD TOWN his home & birth place and go fishing. His family came to old San Diego when it was established by the Spanish. In the late 30's this area flood [my mother lived here then] and people didn't get hurt because this was farm country. People and cattle simply moved up the hillsides. The homes were on the slope of the hill not in the valley like the business and homes now. The flood of 1916 was the biggest recorded.flood of 1916
