Alarm Clock
This pretty little church bell tower is next to my bedroom, well I say next to, it's no more that 10 metres away with no other buildings in between. When the bells are ringing the tower might as well be in my bedroom!
The church itself is Aghios (St) Nicholas. It is tiny and not used very much except for the odd baptism and occasional Sunday service. However, the bells are used - a lot and often early in the morning. Whenever there is a wedding, baptism or death all the churches join in the celebratory peals or funereal tolling. Some have a bit of a tune but this one just has a droning dang dang dang.
On the St Nicholas nameday, the 6th December, I have learnt that it pays to be away from the house all day. On it's saint's day the little church hosts services all day from around 6:30am. This means an awful lot of clanging and and (by Symi winter standards) an awful lot of people milling around below my house.
