Sockeye Salmon
Every year in the late summer and into fall the Sockeye Salmon make their way hundreds of kilometres up the rivers to spawn. They do not eat anything the whole journey and are bruised and battered by the rapids they have to traverse.
These salmon are part of the Adams River run which is over 300 Km upstream. Here they are spawning and afterwards will die and float off downstream to become wedged in the foliage on the bank of the river or wash up on the shore at nearby Shuswap Lake. Their carcasses are eaten by eagles, bears, foxes, wolves and all other scavengers. True recycling.
