ANGE

Every French town, even our town of 90 people, has a cemetery. Tombs are usually large, for an entire family. And family and friends put plaques on top commemorating their lost relative or friend.

But this angel stands alone. It marks the tomb of an 18-month-old child. To me it looks unimaginably sad and particularly, perfectly appropriate.
