Living In The Valley

Finally Turning

This is a flowering pear tree, strictly ornamental. It has the beautiful dark green leaves that mostly turn red or dark brown in autumn. The small fruit it produces is not edible. It has just started to turn, however once the leaves die they tend to hang on the tree for some time. So in the middle of winter you will see leaves on this tree. I sometimes wonder if they will fall off in time for the new spring leaves to start growing. This tree replaced an older maple tree that had grown up in the power lines. This was the trade off, the power company took down the maple tree and planted this one instead. It is a real beauty in the spring.. brilliant white blooms, actually one of my most favorite blooming trees.
