These little niches are in the gable end of an old ruined cottage at the top of the village. There is no roof and it is slowly collapsing stone by stone. For the last couple of years we have watched it slowly sliding into a pile of stones, but there are still a couple of walls standing. These niches in the wall are very typical of old Orkney houses - as far back as Skara Brae Orcadians were building them into their walls.
