Palm Springs Tram
The second day of our daughter's visit we took the Palm Springs Aerial Tram. Opened in September of 1963, the tramway has taken more than 12 million people 8,500 feet above the Coachella Valley in the only rotating cars in North America (the rotating cars were installed in 2000).
Spectacular views abounded from the top and it was not nearly as cold as was predicted. The announcement in the car on the way up stated the temperature could be as much as 40ºF colder than on the valley floor. Today there was only a 20ºF difference, allowing us to comfortably walk around outside on the observation decks.
Lots of family photos later we headed down the 2.5 mile cable, which stretches across the five towers with their helicopter maintenance pads as seen here. Once we got to the valley floor we delivered our daughter back to her home in Long Beach. Much too short a time together, but we will see her again at the game on Wednesday.
