petit point

this is a compact... a girl should never be without one. in this case, it's very old and hungarian made - handmade that is, with 900 stitches to the square inch on this small compact. i'm sure that's why it's called "petit point" because of how tiny....but the question begs to be asked, why? can you imagine the eye strain alone to stitch something so minute? the time it would take as your fingers worked?

once done, i would think the piece should remain in the family - perhaps being passed down, daughter to daughter. somehow that didn't happen... it got lost...traveled overseas... far from hungary and its origins.

i found it tossed in a basket in an antique store... a treasure - mine to enjoy... now yours to see...
