An Answer.....
This morning our daughter woke up quite happy with no symptoms of the uncomfortable welts from the evening before.
Hallelujah!
I called the doctor this morning and explained our situation with the Emergency Room visit, and he got her right in. Of course, she wasn't showing any signs of the symptoms from the previous day and evening, but he was very attentive as I described her symptoms and after a quick evaluation, he had a diagnosis.
Coxsackie Virus. A virus that can be fairly common in kids. It can be as mild as uncomfortable canker sores or as severe as a mouth full of sores and full body welts. My daughter has been dealing with the severe symptoms of this virus. He said that the positive to her having Coxsackie is that it is not dangerous with long term negative effects. That was so good to hear. The downside to this particular virus is that it is very painful for the child. And yes, it most certainly was. She is definitely starting to heal and should be back to her usual self in just a couple of days.
It was so nice to hear that she did not have a severe unknown allergic reaction to something. How scary to not know what it is that your child could be allergic to that could cause such distress in her little body. I thanked our doctor. I wanted him to know that we have never left his office confused or with an unknown diagnosis. I wanted him to know how much faith we have in his skills. How appreciative we are of his medical knowledge. Our whole family is under his medical care and I feel so very fortunate about that.
On the way to the doctor's office, my daughter kept saying, "It's so doggy out Mommy.....doggy over here, doggy over der, but not doggy waaaaaay over der." Foggy. "Yes my honey" I told her, "yes it is very foggy today". So cute and such a little heart warming conversation. Oh and after promising her a yellow sticker and a yellow sucker, she agreed to open her mouth so that the doctor could look inside with his light. She is a huge fan of yellow. Has been for quite some time.
So today I expected her to want to rest and have a quiet day, but no, she was buzzing around the house with her brother having a good old time. They even went outside with their rain boots on and made mud puddles in the dirt with the backyard hose. Safe to say, she is feeling much much better now.
The photo that I got today is of our daughter cozied up on the couch watching a movie. 'How to Train a Dragon'. She made it half way through before falling asleep on the couch. She just looked so comfortable on the couch.
I want to thank each and every one of you for your comments, thoughtfulness, and concern yesterday. We feel so blessed to have a name to go with the virus. Nothing rare or unusual, just a very bad case of it. And thanks to my family and friends for your calls, texts, and emails today checking up on our baby girl. We sure do have a lot of support in our lives. We are so thankful for that.
Have a nice night blippers and my blip readers!
