Rebels with a Cause
This is the prize exhibit in a small but fascinating exhibition launched at the Scottish Parliament today. Called Rebels with a Cause: The Jacobites and the Global Imagination, it explores and challenges traditional assumptions about the Jacobites. This ostrich egg comes from Africa and is carved with Jacobite symbols and was made in memory of the death of James VIII and III. The exhibits come from the University of Aberdeen's collection.
Other exhibits include a Jacobite recruitment slip and songbook, a letter written by Bonnie Prince Charlie while in exile, a first edition of Sir Walter Scott's novel Waverley and a collection of 20th century Rob Roy comics.
It's worth a look, entry is free and it runs from tomorrow to 8 January 2011.
