Macduff and Sea

I love seeing the sea. I went to a meeting in Banff today and across the water is Macduff- poorer relative, harder and smaller.

There's always a sense of adventure, a slight fear, and excitement when you see the water.

Why?

Years ago, an academic had proposed that we humans used to spend a lot of our time in water. Perhaps it's a calling?

I love and fear it. I tried to conquer it by surfing, scuba, rafting and weird obsessiveness. But you shouldn't conquer water. That leads to familiarity and complacency. All my water buddies have stories of near death experiences.

I rather think you should love it.

And remember to fear it.
