Egg
This, although it bears very little resemblence to how today has actually been, is the best I've taken today. And I like it. It resembles Hope. Ben has only eaten probably a quarter of an apple since I blipped it, but he has eaten a quarter of an apple. And one day, one day maybe he will eat more than half a spoonful of boiled egg (he didn't spit it straight out! that's progress) and half a toast soldier.
Eventually by gone midday we made it out of the house. My mission was to get my grandma's wedding ring resized so that I can wear it. It is going to be my replacement wedding ring, so I'd better not lose it and it'd better not just fall off somewhere. I also wanted to buy a new top, and maybe a winter jacket... I failed at the clothing thing, but I did spy a handbag that I fell in love with and as it was less than a tenner I have treated myself. It IS my birthday, after all ;) And I did manage to get the ring sent off, eventually. Don't think I'll be going there again. They somehow thought that getting a ring sized down from a J to an H meant that it would have gold added into it. And were about to charge me as such until I pointed out their mistake.
We had chips at a cafe for lunch, came home and realised I'd missed a delivery - ah well, the birthday goes on until tomorrow when I pick that up, because it's from my mother-in-law and is a box of birthday goodies! And then Ben didn't want to go to sleep. He had been sleepy and tired before we went out, but flatly refused to put his head down on our walkabout, and was still running round like an overtired elephant when we got home. And I was knackered and in need of my nap-break. And he still didn't want to go to sleep. But eventually I tricked him into sleeping, and was rewarded when I went to wake him up later by a big stretch, a smile, and, "bak-dus?" (That would be, breakfast!) Little moments like that just make the cantankerous bits worth the stress.
Anyway. While he was asleep I'd started getting the fire going. Now, I've learnt over the past few years how to get a log fire going. I'm not so bad at that. But getting coals lit is another matter and something I'm going to have to practise (regularly and frequently - I foresee fires in the hearth every day until I've got it down to an art form) but at least I did get it lit and it's still going now so I can't have done that badly. I didn't used to be able to even get a log fire lit so I have improved considerably.
And now, now I've opened my presents (the best being tied - a gorillapod from my mum, and a rather beautiful necklace from Steve, he's particularly good at choosing jewellery for me (comes from being married to me for so long I suppose)), had a glass of wine, eaten pizza (pizza delivery guy left for the second time looking like he was ready to kill somebody back at the kitchen for getting our delivery wrong twice!), am watching Wall-E and might tidy up ready for bed after I've done this blip.
At least I would have, except I think Ben read my blip from the other side of the room and has made his way over, "muuuuummmyyy"........ Speaking of Ben.... here's his "stop tickling me" face :)
