The Edge of the Wold

Light and dark

We were covered in a blanket of grey cloud all day today until late afternoon. Then the horizon started to brighten as the sun was sinking below the cloud layer. There was brilliant sunshine with long shadows, throwing everything into bright relief against the black receding clouds.

I witnessed this as I was heading home. The contrasting bright light and dark cloud was short-lived as the sky cleared. The crows in the top left were being buffeted by strong winds, and little flocks of starlings were dashing across (too quickly for me). This photo taken on Halforth Marshes was Wifie's choice. I preferred this one of the Sandside mudflats with roosting gulls against a pastel-coloured backdrop of hills and woods.

ps Everyone else agreed with Wifie, she who is infallible.
