Bank of New Zealand - Kaiapoi

A favourite building of mine.

I admire this brick and stone building every week when I visit Kaiapoi. It stands proudly and securely (I think) on a corner in this small town. It has a yellow sticker which means it has restricted use since the earthquake.

It was constructed in 1882 replacing a building from 1862. Then the BNZ was the only bank in Kaiapoi and the first building to be built out of brick and stone.
It was used in its original purpose until 1988 when the bank moved to another premises. Today this building is home to a private business.

The emblem above the door shows in the middle 2 grey kiwis surrounded by our native flax, cabbage tree and silver tree fern with white river stones. Perhaps I could blip this with more detail in the future and perhaps show you the whole building at some stage.

I'm so happy its reasonably safe and not going to be demolished. The carpark on the other hand is a mess.

There were so many photos to choose from today as the sun was shining and the Kaiapoi River was beautiful, but it just felt right to blip this grand stately building.

Enjoy the weekend :)
