Pax huic domui nil intret mali

I have walked past 51 rue Victor Hugo so many times and casually noted the latin inscription in the stone to the right of the door. In my un-tuned in mind, I had always read Mali as the country - an association of ideas, no doubt due to the fact of the house is in the same street as an Africain food shop. Today, perhaps with the prevalence of ghost masks and gaping pumkin faces, I realised my error.
1945 - I wonder what remembered horrors the owner of No. 51 wanted to keep out?
