Pete was a land surveyor, an honorable profession that dates back centuries.

Today E-man and I helped my cousin Peter and his wife Pam pack up Pete's office. We had to shit-can Pete's fireproof filing cabinets when asbestos started to fall out of the linings. We now have Pete's drafting table at our house for E-man to draft on. As Peter has carried on in his father's foosteps as a land surveyor, he now has all Pete's work and Pete's collection of surveying instruments.

This instrument is approximately two hundred years old and is similar to instruments George Washington would have used as a young man while surveying on the original land grant to Lord Fairfax.
