Gordon
My nephew, Gordon, at our annual family halloween/bonfire night get together. I know it's a little early for sparklers, but the ones of the kids apple bobbing weren't quite as good. The kids all looked rather cute in their 'scarey naked' and devil costumes.
Every year we try to get to gether around Halloween/bonfire night for food and fireworks. Generally something happens - I suspect my parents house would make great inspiration for a comedy in the syle of Fawlty Towers when we are all there. This year we introduced apple bobbing to the little ones. Rory refused, stating it was naughty to put your face in water. The others were all game and the adults had to play too. Even mum had a go... apparently she hadn't realised 'how much was involved' and struggled to catch an apple. My sister 'hasn't got sharp teeth', you will be glad to know.
The men gallantly tried to light a bonfire in the wind and rain. No amount of 'fuel' worked. The firework show was impressive this year, with Daz, my brother and my brother-in-law setting them off all at once. Only one rocket came down on us and luckily it had gone out.
Some years are not so succesful. Once we pushed grandma up to the French doors to watch. All was going well until a rocket decided to fly into the window and explode. The noise was enormous and we feared grandma may suffer a heart attack from the shock. The clamour from her grandchildren coming to check whe was ok shocked her more, - her gaze had been firmly upwards and she hadn't noticed.... Another year a rocket flew at great speed into down stairs window, causing uproar amongst the students who lived there....
